Watch Pirates' Konnor Griffin Hit RBI Double in 1st-Career MLB At-Bat in Video
Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Konnor Griffin has lofty expectations, and he's doing a good job of meeting them early on in his MLB career.
The shortstop made his MLB debut on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles and hit an RBI double in his first at-bat in the majors.

Griffin was the ninth overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft and has enjoyed a quick rise through the minors. He started this season at the Triple-A level but played just five games before being called up to the majors.
By playing on Friday, he became the first teenage position player to appear in an MLB game since Juan Soto did so in 2018, according to MLB.com's Sarah Langs. The Pirates also didn't just call him up to get a look at him against MLB arms. According to Jason Mackey of MLB.com, Pittsburgh called him up "for baseball reasons and because he's their best option" at shortstop.
Griffin has received more hype than just about any prospect in recent memory. He's the consensus No. 1 overall prospect and was even compared to legends like Alex Rodriguez and Mike Trout by MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo.
To be compared to two players who have won multiple MVPs says a lot about how promising Griffin has looked so far. Whether he can meet those comparisons remains to be seen.
The Pirates are already preparing to lock down Griffin for the foreseeable future, as the New York Post's Jon Heyman noted earlier this week that the two sides have had "progress" in contract talks.
Pittsburgh is 3-3 to start the season and will look to have a postseason-caliber year after more than a decade of struggles.
