Speed Injured from LA Knight Attack, WWE Rumors on Lil Yachty and John Cena at WrestleMania
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.
IShowSpeed Addresses LA Knight Attack
After LA Knight interrupted IShowSpeed's livestream on Thursday, delivering a beatdown as retribution for being hit with brass knuckles on this week's episode of Raw, the YouTuber showed off the injuries he sustained.
During a separate livestream, IShowSpeed had his arm in a sling with bruises and bandages on his face.
"People want to come to my house, tarnish my name, tarnish my thing, breaking in—I don't get it anymore. But that don't stop me. That don't stop Speed, baby. ... Today, right now, spam up the Ws—Speed is back in action. This week I'm hurt, and I need to get a win. LA Knight from WWE broke into my damn house and pushed me into my damn setup and then left. It's all cool, bro."
IShowSpeed and Knight were at ringside for the tag title match between the Usos and The Vision duo of Logan Paul and Austin Theory. Speed at one point put brass knucks on after a fracas with Paul, but he inadvertently punched Knight as he thought was Paul.
Theory later pinned Jimmy Uso after Paul hit him with the brass knuckles to give The Vision the win and the world tag team titles.
All of this is appears to be leading up to a six-man tag at WrestleMania, with WrestleVotes Radio (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reporting that Speed will team with The Vision against Knight and the Usos.
Lil Yachty Could Appear at WrestleMania
After receiving an invitation from Trick Williams to appear on SmackDown this week, Lil Yachty could be sticking around WWE beyond Friday night.
Per WrestleVotes Radio (h/t Carrier), WWE is looking into possibly using the rap star during WrestleMania weekend.
It was noted that nothing about Lil Yachty's involvement at 'Mania has been confirmed at this point.
Williams gave a shoutout to Yachty on the March 27 edition of SmackDown, then took to Instagram to extend an invite for him to appear on the show this week in St. Louis.
WWE has already set up a Williams vs. Sami Zayn match for the United States title at WrestleMania after Zayn won the championship from Carmelo Hayes last week with an inadvertent assist from Trick.
Williams tossed the belt into the ring, allowing Zayn to pick it up. The referee grabbed it away from Sami when he was pushed into Williams, who followed it by accidentally punching Hayes.
Zayn followed it up by hitting Hayes with the Helluva kick to get the pin. SmackDown GM Nick Aldis then announced Zayn would defend the crown against Trick.
Celebrity involvement is a staple of WrestleMania, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Lil Yachty appears on the show. It would also make sense for Williams to win the title at the event.
Any potential angle to get Yachty involved, presumably in Williams' corner, will likely be set up on this week's episode of SmackDown.
John Cena Was Late Addition to WrestleMania Plans
Four months after retiring from in-ring competition, John Cena was revealed to be returning to WWE as the host of WrestleMania 42.
Per WrestleVotes Radio (h/t Carrier), the idea of Cena hosting the biggest show of the year wasn't presented to him until sometime in early February and was considered a "significant shift" from what was originally expected.
There has been plenty of discussion around ticket sales for this year's WrestleMania and why they have been lagging behind the previous two editions of the show.
Regardless of whatever the original plan for Cena to be involved in the biggest event of the year, having him be involved in some way makes all the sense in the world. He remains a huge draw and will bring more eyes to the show.
It will be interesting to see how Cena is used in his role as host. The last time WWE had someone host the show was The Rock at WrestleMania 27, which wound up being used to set up his eventual match with Cena at the event the following year.
Cena has made it clear he is retired from in-ring competition, but that doesn't necessarily prevent him from getting physical if someone were to approach him during his duties as host of the biggest show of the year.
We will find out what Cena has in store in his role as host of WrestleMania soon, with the show scheduled to take place on April 18 and 19 from Allegiant Stadium.
