Browns GM Talks Trade Options, Plans for No. 6 Pick in 2026 NFL Draft

Paul KasabianApr 2, 2026

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry discussed potential plans for the No. 6 overall pick in this year's NFL draft to a few team beat reporters at the league meetings earlier this week in Phoenix, per Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com.

In essence, it seems trading down is a possibility, although there's a lot still to be determined, including who the Browns take if they stay at No. 6.

"It really just depends on the prospects that are available," Berry said, per Cabot. "I don't know that (we'll find a trade partner), but I would tell you guys, I don't know that we're going to be picking six at the end of April, and if we are picking six, I have no idea what we're going to take at this point."

The Browns currently have three of the NFL draft's first 39 spots at No. 6, No. 24 and No. 39 overall. After finishing last in the AFC North last year at 5-12 and making a change at head coach (Todd Monken replacing Kevin Stefanski), it's critical for Berry to get the draft right and put Cleveland back on the right path toward success.

Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN listed the Browns' top draft needs as offensive tackle, wide receiver and quarterback.

"The Browns spent the first wave of free agency upgrading their offensive line, but they still have a glaring hole at left tackle; Dawand Jones is coming off his third consecutive season-ending leg injury and is more comfortable at right tackle. Cleveland also needs a playmaker to lift the league's least productive receiver room in 2025. And though the Browns haven't added another quarterback and will miss out on Fernando Mendoza, this new staff could be compelled to draft at the position."

The latest mock draft from the B/R NFL Scouting Department has the Browns selecting Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate at No. 6 and Utah offensive tackle Caleb Lomu at No. 24. Both picks would make a lot of sense. The Browns need a No. 1 option at wide receiver and could also use more offensive line reinforcements to help a team that finished second-last in scoring in 2025.

It certainly wouldn't be the worst idea for the Browns to trade down and acquire more draft capital, however. It's clear Berry is open to the idea, and adding more players on rookie contracts can certainly help. Cleveland already has nine draft picks in 2026.

This year's NFL draft will take place in Pittsburgh and run from April 23-25.
