Trick Williams Beats Sami Zayn for US Title at WWE WrestleMania 42 After Lil Yachty Interferes
Trick Williams beat Sami Zayn on Night 2 of WWE WrestleMania 42 on Sunday to win the United States Championship, with a little help from Lil Yachty.
Ever since Williams debuted on the WWE main roster in January, he and Zayn have been at odds, primarily due to Trick taking every opportunity possible to take personal shots at Sami.
While WrestleMania marked the first televised one-on-one match between Williams and Zayn, they did face each other once before in a Fatal 4-Way match at the Jan. 24 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event.
Zayn won the match to become No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship, but he lost his title match against Drew McIntyre at Royal Rumble, giving Williams even more ammo to use against him.
However, when Trick fell short in the men's Elimination Chamber match, Zayn turned it around on him and claimed that he was also incapable of winning the big one.
Their rivalry reached another level when SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis reserved a spot for Williams on the WrestleMania card while telling Zayn there wasn't any space for him.
An angry Zayn attacked Williams and vowed to force his way onto the WrestleMania card by answering Carmelo Hayes' open challenge for the United States Championship.
Trick was ringside for the bout and attempted to cost Zayn, but he accidentally hit Hayes instead, and Sami took advantage by pinning Melo to win the title.
With that, Aldis made Zayn vs. Williams official for WrestleMania 42, marking the first WrestleMania match of Trick's young career.
Despite his lack of experience relative to Zayn, Williams prevailed at The Showcase of the Immortals, capturing the United States Championship, his first title since being elevated from NXT to the main roster.
