
Jackson Merrill Tells Funny Story About Playing Rock, Paper, Scissors With Fan During Padres-Giants
San Diego Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill got two wins on Wednesday, with one coming via game of rock, paper, scissors with a fan at Petco Park.
Following the Padres' 7-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants, Merrill explained to Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune that a kid behind the dugout kept asking him throughout the game to play rock, paper, scissors with the kid receiving an autograph if he won.

Merrill noted the win was unexpected because he "never" triumphs in rock, paper, scissors.
Unfortunately for the young fan, he wasn't able to secure a victory to get an autographed Merrill item. Heilbrunn wrote that the fan was "smiling ear-to-ear" despite the result.
The fan go to see the Padres end their six-game homestand to open the 2026 season with a win. They had lost the first two games against the Giants and were 1-4 entering play on Wednesday.
Merrill finished 1-for-5 with a run scored at the plate, but clearly the highlight of his day was the triumphant moment in rock, paper, scissors.
