Masyn Winn Involved in Car Crash After Walk-Off Win vs. Mets, Cardinals Announce
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn was involved in a car accident after Wednesday's 2-1 walk-off win against the New York Mets, the team announced.
"Following today's game, Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car accident on Int 64/Hwy 40 due to wet pavement," the Cardinals said in a statement. "Masyn, who was alone in the vehicle, was attended to by local police and Cardinals security and medical staff. He was examined at a nearby hospital and suffered no serious injuries. We are grateful that he is OK, and thank the first responders in our community who helped Masyn tonight."

A second-round pick in the 2020 MLB draft, Winn is in the midst of his fourth major league season with the Cardinals. He recorded his first RBI of the 2026 campaign by hitting a bloop single with two outs in the 11th inning against the Mets to bring home automatic runner JJ Wetherholt. It was also his first career walk-off RBI.
"It wasn't the best swing," Winn said after the victory, per Brenden Schaeffer of MLB.com. "But I was just trying to get to first base, just in case."
Winn has recorded just four hits in 25 at-bats to start the season for a .160 batting average, but the 24-year-old is confident that he will be able to turn things around soon.
"I think a swinging bunt was my first hit last year—I think that's what got me going," Winn said. "So maybe it's something like that. … At some point, I'm going to get hot, for sure."
The Cardinals have missed the playoffs in each of the last three years, so they will need contributions from Winn and the rest of their young core to break through this season.
Winn and the Cardinals (4-2) will have the day off Thursday before opening their weekend series against the Detroit Tigers (2-4) on Friday afternoon.
