New Chris Jericho Rumors About WWE Future and AEW Status
Chris Jericho hasn't wrestled since last April, when he dropped the ROH World Championship to Bandido at AEW Dynasty.
However, rumors and speculation abound that Jericho could be returning to AEW. Fightful Select had the latest (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News).
"Chris Jericho has been the subject of discussion recently, as he trademarked the phrase 'Cornerstone.' This has led to natural speculation about his landing point. Sources in AEW do have a growing belief that he will return to the company, especially with the nature of the trademark making more sense there."
Fightful Select also added: "At the very least, Jericho and AEW have been discussing a return in the last couple of months."
Shortly after AEW Dynasty, Jericho went on tour with his band, Fozzy, from April 17-May 12. He also went on tour with Fozzy in the United Kingdom in February, and the band is also going on tour stateside in May.
There's been speculation and rumors connecting Jericho to WWE, but that doesn't look like it's happening.
"We're told that there absolutely have been talks between Chris Jericho and WWE in recent months. However, at no point has creative been set for him that we've heard about. He was never planned for the WWE Raw on Netflix anniversary, Royal Rumble, or Elimination Chamber."
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter also had this to say (h/t WrestlePurists).
"Regarding Jericho, I was told a week ago from WWE not to expect him in WWE any time soon, if ever, regarding rumors going around of him starting in WWE & AEW, both of which were out at the same time when he filed for the trademark."
In a March 24 interview with Tanaka Haruto of GamesHub, the 55-year-old Jericho made clear he feels he has time left in the ring.
"What worries me about the guys working today is here I am at 55, 35 years in, with still some career left to go. I don't know if it's a year, two years, four years — I'm not sure."
Ultimately, it seems to be a matter of if and not when AEW's inaugural world champion returns to the ring, and signs are pointing to that being with AEW.
