Mark Davis Reacts to Maxx Crosby Returning to Raiders After Failed Ravens Trade
Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis says he's relieved to have Maxx Crosby back with his team after a failed attempt to trade him to the Baltimore Ravens.
"All the way along, I said I didn't want Maxx to leave," Davis told the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Callie Fin. "I want him to be part of this organization forever. He's been a great Raider. He's a great person. Great dad. All of that.
"Unfortunately, things transpired where he was traded and I wasn't sad that they sent him back."
The Raiders agreed to trade Crosby to the Ravens in exchange for two first-round picks before Baltimore pulled out of the deal due to medical concerns.
Davis was asked Tuesday during the NFL's annual league meetings in Phoenix whether he saw a scenario where the Raiders make another deal to move Crosby this season.
"I would say you would talk to [general manager John Spytek], and Maxx, and [head coach Klint Kubiak]," Davis answered.
Davis continued, "As I said, I never wanted Maxx to leave. So, I'm glad that he's back, and I'm glad we got Tyler Linderbaum, so I think we came out of that pretty well."
Both Spytek and Kubiak have also both expressed happiness with the Crosby trade not working out.
Kubiak told reporters getting Crosby back felt like picking up "another free-agent signing," while Spytek said felt things were "working out the way that they're supposed to."
Even if the Raiders are happy to have Crosby back, there could be some about the star defender's desire to stick around with a franchise that has recorded just one winning season since he joined the NFL in 2018.
Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reported after the failed deal with the Ravens that Crosby had "quietly" told Davis and Spytek that he wanted a trade. Both Breer and The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported Crosby had kept this request private in part because of his relationship with Davis.
Crosby has expressed excitement about rejoining the Raiders on social media following the rescinded trade. The Raiders could be hoping their possession of the top pick of the 2026 NFL draft, a selection the franchise is widely anticipated to use on Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, will give Crosby enough hope he's about to play for a competitive team to keep him happy in Las Vegas.
