Four months after his return to NXT following a lengthy hiatus, D'Angelo scored the biggest win of his career Saturday, winning the NXT title to become an NXT grand slam champion.

The groundwork for Saturday's title bout was laid as soon as Hendry won the vacant NXT Championship in February by prevailing in a seven-man ladder match.

Hendry pushed Saints off the ladder to clinch the victory, setting the stage for a one-on-one title bout between Hendry and Saints at Vengeance Day last month.

Page interfered and attempted to help Saints knock off Hendry, but the referee stopped him from tossing the NXT title belt to Saints. Hendry later broke the rules while the referee was incapacitated, hitting Saints with a low blow en route to victory.

Given the controversial manner in which the match played out, Saints remained determined to win the NXT title back from Hendry, and Page made it clear that he wanted to be in the mix as well despite Saints trying to convince him to go after the North American Championship.

On the March 10 episode of NXT, Saints and Page beat Hendry and Myles Borne in a tag team match, further strengthening their case as NXT title contenders.

After feigning the dissolution of their alliance the following week, Saints and Page attacked Hendry. However, D'Angelo intervened and took out all three of them, throwing his name into the NXT Championship conversation as well.

A subsequent match between Saints and D'Angelo ended in disqualification when Page got involved once again, and Hendry used the chaos to his advantage by taking the fight to Saints, Page and Tony D.

That was the final straw for NXT general manager Robert Stone, who booked all four of them to settle their differences at Stand & Deliver with the biggest prize in NXT hanging in the balance. D'Angelo ultimately prevailed.
