Latest WWE WrestleMania 42 Rumors on Potential Card and Top Superstars
WrestleMania 42 is rapidly approaching, with WWE poised to takeover Las Vegas and Allegiant Stadium for the second year in a row.
Despite the event taking place in just over two weeks, there are still questions about the card and several top stars' involvement in it. Thanks to one busy industry insider, we have some answers to those burning questions.
Dive deeper into each now with this collection, including the latest on Seth Rollins vs. Gunther, the potential for an appearance from The Rock, and what IShowSpeed's role on the big card may be.
Who is Randy Orton Talking To?
1 of 3
Randy Orton has been spotted talking to an unknown associate on his phone and teased who it may be by uttering the words, "wrestling has more than one royal family," the same line that precedes Cody Rhodes' entrance music and a hint at involvement from a second or third-generation star.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reported that his sources deny the unknown person on the phone with Orton in the build to the WWE title match at WrestleMania is The Rock.
He did note, though, that if it was The Rock, only the people who needed to know (Nick Khan and Paul Levesque) would.
With the return of Stephanie McMahon to television Monday night on Raw, perhaps she has a role in this program. Maybe it is her brother, Shane, who has not been on TV since tearing his quadriceps muscle at WrestleMania 39.
It could also be the former teammate of both Orton and Rhodes in Legacy, Ted DiBiase Jr.
There are plenty of potential second or third-generation stars to choose from but at least for now, Meltzer's sources do not believe it will be The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment.
Update on Seth Rollins vs. Gunther and Bron Breakker's Role
2 of 3
Meltzer also reported for F4WOnline.com that Seth Rollins vs. Gunther has been the plan for WrestleMania for weeks.
He wrote, "The entire storyline the past few weeks with Rollins and Paul Heyman was always to build to Gunther choking Rollins out in Madison Square Garden," (h/t Rick Ucchio of The Takedown on SI).
Where does that leave Bron Breakker?
Meltzer added, "The idea of Rollins vs. Breakker is very much alive, but they are wanting the proper television build time." Breakker, he added, was cleared to compete, but the decision was made to hold off and give that program the time needed to develop.
Rollins vs. Gunther may not have the deep backstory to it, or any backstory for that matter, but it should be one of the best matches of the weekend. Two of the best wrestlers in the world, synonymous with the high quality performances they bring to the shows on which they appear, do not be surprised if they tear the house down and steal the show out from under the more prominent main event matches on the two-day card in Las Vegas.
WrestleMania Plans for The Usos, The Vision, and LA Knight?
3 of 3
The busy Meltzer also reported that based on Monday's episode of Raw, the plan is for The Usos to team with LA Knight to battle The Vision's Logan Paul and Austin Theory, and YouTuber IShowSpeed (h/t WrestleTalk).
The report does note that if Speed is not ready to compete in an actual match, the option to be in the heels' corner, while Knight provides backup for Jimmy and Jey Uso, is on the table.
With little else for everyone to do, it is a match that plays to the ongoing storyline, adds the celebrity involvement that has helped define WrestleMania over the years, and would make for an entertaining undercard bout, if nothing else.
It will hinge on Speed's ability to play catch-up and be able to perform on the grand stage, though. If he cannot, it would be a major blow for Knight, who absolutely should be featured on the card, in a wrestling role, as one of the top babyfaces in the company.
