A.J. Brown Trade Rumors Addressed By Jeffrey Lurie as Eagles Owner Hypes Jalen Hurts' 'Clutch Gene'

Paul KasabianMar 31, 2026

Trade rumors regarding Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown have run rampant this offseason. On Tuesday, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was asked about Brown at the league meetings in Phoenix, per EJ Smith of PHLY Sports.

"Howie kept saying, A.J. is an Eagle. I will say this, DeVonta and A.J., two great receivers and also great teammates. These two are wonderful to have. Great teammates and great receivers. So, he's an Eagle, we'll see what happens down the road. So is DeVonta, so is Jalen Hurts, so is Saquon."

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was asked about Brown at the league meetings.

"I understand that there's interest in the A.J. Brown story. I, unfortunately, don't have a home under a rock," Roseman said, per ESPN's Tim McManus. "But my answer to any question on A.J. Brown is A.J. Brown is a member of the Eagles. From my perspective, anything you ask me about A.J. Brown, I'm going to go right back to that answer. But I understand the interest. I put on TV and I see that there's interest but my answer is A.J. Brown is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles."

The same went for head coach Nick Sirianni.

This much is certain: A.J. Brown is, in fact, an Eagle. The question, of course, is whether that will be true in Week 1 of the 2026 season.

At this point, though, the answer would appear to be no. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer had the latest.

So Brown could be out of town. There's no question that quarterback Jalen Hurts will stick around, though.

After a Super Bowl-winning campaign in 2024, Hurts and the rest of the Eagles' offense took a step back in 2025. The Eagles parted ways with offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and hired Sean Mannion in his place.

Lurie still has great faith in Hurts' abilities, per Smith.

"There's no bigger fan of Jalen than me. Clutch gene, absolutely. The guy was the MVP 13 months ago, should have been the MVP of the Super Bowl right before that against Kansas City the first time. He's so dedicated. I think you probably know, I spend a lot of time with Jalen as I do with most quarterbacks and he's incredibly dedicated to the game, to winning, and being a huge winner. I love everything about him."

Philadelphia added a couple wide receivers to the mix this year in Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore, but losing A.J. Brown would be a tough blow considering he's been a 1,000-yard receiver in each of his four seasons in town. The Eagles, of course, could add more help in the draft.

In the meantime, though, Brown is an Eagle, but questions will still loom this offseason every day he remains on the roster.
