Azzi Fudd, UConn Reach 3rd Straight Final Four with Win vs. Hannah Hidalgo, Notre Dame

Andrew PetersMar 29, 2026

UConn is on its way to the Final Four for a third consecutive season.

The top-seeded Huskies downed No. 6 Notre Dame 70-52 to punch their ticket to the semifinals, where they'll take on No. 1 South Carolina or No. 3 TCU.

The Fighting Irish, who upset No. 3 Ohio State and No. 2 Vanderbilt on their way to the Elite Eight, hung around with UConn for much of the game, heading into halftime down just seven points.

But the Huskies, as they have done often this season, used a dominant second half to put things out of reach. UConn extended the lead to 11 points heading into the fourth quarter and never allowed Notre Dame to get back into it.

Huskies star Azzi Fudd was a bit quiet by her standards, but still finished with 13 points. Sophomore forward Sarah Strong posted 21 points with seven boards, five steals and three blocks, and Blanca Quiñonez had 20 off the bench.

Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo had 22 points and 11 rebounds, but that wasn't enough with the rest of her squad struggling on the offensive end.

The storyline heading into the semifinal will be a possible rematch against South Carolina after last year's national title game. The Huskies dominated the matchup last year and will look to do the same if they see Dawn Staley's group again.
