The Los Angeles Dodgers are testing the limits of fan obsession with Shohei Ohtani merchandise by selling a souvenir cup of the four-time MVP at home games this season.

The Dodgers have adjusted the price and perks because they were originally charging $75 with free refills for that specific game on Opening Day on Thursday.
While it's hard to totally justify the cup at either price the Dodgers have set, there is an argument that it is a good value depending on how many games you might attend this season.
A regular souvenir cup of soda at Dodger Stadium is sold for $11.99, so if you are someone who plans on going to at least six home games and getting a drink at all of them, the one-time investment in the Ohtani cup pays for itself.
It's also worth noting if you are someone who can afford season tickets to the Dodgers, you probably aren't wasting a lot of time thinking about the cost of a cup.
Another factor at play is the secondary market that will almost certainly develop around the Ohtani cup when it stops being sold. There's an entire enterprise built around Disney popcorn buckets.
The famous Dune 2 popcorn bucket sold in theaters when the film was released in March 2024 were put up for sale with buyers paying as much as $800.
Given how valuable virtually every piece of Ohtani merchandise has become over the course of his MLB career, these souvenir cups will almost certainly increase in value.
