Kim Mulkey Rips Retirement Rumors After LSU's March Madness Exit, 'Flat-Out Lie'
Despite recent rumors about her retirement, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey made it clear she intends to remain in her current job.
Following the Tigers' 87-85 loss to Duke in the Sweet 16 on Friday night, Mulkey dismissed retirement speculation as a "flat-out lie" while speaking to the media during her postgame press conference.
"I'm not retiring, do I look that bad? I don't know where that came from. I am only 63 and I'm healthy with a few stents in my heart. My doctor says I'm good to go," Mulkey said.
It appears the rumors about Mulkey's future were posted on social media and gained some traction, but there was never anything substantial to indicate there was truth to the discussion.
"Got it? I'm not retiring," Mulkey reiterated as she walked off the podium. "Make sure you put that out there—not retiring."
Mulkey's comments came after a thrilling game between LSU and Duke. The two powerhouse programs traded blows throughout the entire game before the Blue Devils won on Ashlon Jackson's three at the buzzer.
This season marks the first time in Mulkey's five years at LSU that the team lost before the Elite Eight. It's also the first time she hasn't advanced to the Elite Eight since 2017-18 at Baylor, with the exception of the 2019-20 season when the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mulkey has a 151-26 record in five seasons at LSU. She is 783-130 with four national titles in 26 seasons as a head coach.
