Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo broke two steals records on Friday during her team's 67-64 win over Vanderbilt in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament, per Andrea Adelson of ESPN.

Hidalgo is now the all-time leader for most steals in a single season in Division I play. She also broke the record for most steals in a single NCAA tournament.

The junior guard authored a phenomenal performance to say the least with 31 points, 11 rebounds, 10 steals and seven rebounds.

Hidalgo now has 199 steals, previously breaking the record of 192 of Lamar's Chastadie Barrs in 2018-19. The NCAA began recognizing steals as an official statistic in 1987-88.

She also has 26 steals in just three tournament games. The previous tournament record was 23, held by Old Dominion's Ticha Penicheiro (1988) and Louisville's Emily Engstler (2022).

Fans and analysts raved about her game.

Hidalgo turned defense into offense early, getting a steal and a layup on the other end to open the scoring.

She had two steals in a five-second stretch in the second quarter and finished with seven steals in the first half alone.

Vanderbilt ultimately finished with 23 turnovers to Notre Dame's 13. The Fighting Irish also scored 23 points on turnovers to Vanderbilt's four, and that proved to be the difference.

Still, Vanderbilt led 62-61 with 1:48 remaining after Mikayla Bayles' layup. Notre Dame fired back, though, thanks to a Cassandre Prosper's free throw followed by Hidalgo's layup for a 64-62 edge.

Aubrey Galvan made two free throws in response to tie the game at 64, but Hidalgo found Prosper for the eventual game-winning layup with 22 seconds left.

Notre Dame, a No. 6 seed, is now in the Elite Eight for the first time since 2019.
