Quintayvious Hutchins NFL Draft 2026 Scouting Report for New England Patriots Edge
The New England Patriots selected Boston College Edge Quintayvious Hutchins with the No. 247 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
Quintayvious Hutchins is a a one-trick pony, but it's a pretty good trick. He's quick with great change-of-direction skills to beat offensive tackles across their faces and make them look silly, providing upside to contribute as an NFL pass-rusher.
The Boston College product was a 3-star recruit in the 2021 high school class and didn't see much defensive action until his redshirt junior season, primarily contributing on special teams and playing tight end in 2022.
He participated in 43 career games (16 starts) and logged 72 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks for the Eagles.

Where He Wins
2 of 5
- Hutchins shows solid burst off the line of scrimmage to threaten offensive tackles with speed around the edge, to go along with a decent cross-chop move.
- Sets up his pass-rush moves by stemming outside to win inside or vice versa, and has very good change of direction beat tackles across their faces.
- Can be effective as the looper in line games with his change of direction and agility.
- Looks comfortable spot dropping in coverage as a change of pace.
- Hustle player, will factor into gang tackles down the field.
Areas of Improvement
3 of 5.jpg)
- Hutchins is too light to set the edge consistently in the NFL, and he didn't test well at the NFL combine to suggest he's a good enough athlete to overcome a lack of size.
- He also has subpar arm length, consistently allowing offensive linemen to make the first significant contact when rushing the passer.
- Against offensive tackles who are patient to avoid oversetting against his stems or can stay in front of him, he lacks the hand usage to get a clean win and will get ridden inside or beyond the quarterback. He's overly reliant on making tackles miss.
- Shows some ankle stiffness that makes cornering at the top of the rush difficult.
- Minimal production as a pass-rusher in college, including recording just two sacks this past season.
