Lionel Messi and Neymar in 'Spectacular' Shape, Says Barcelona Boss Luis Enrique

Rory MarsdenAug 6, 2015

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is delighted with the form of star duo Lionel Messi and Neymar following the pair's respective returns from holiday after their Copa America travails.

Neymar's involvement at the Chile tournament was limited as he was sent off in Brazil's second group game against Colombia and missed the remainder of the campaign.

Messi, though, went all the way to July 4's final with Argentina before they lost out on penalties to the hosts.

However, any fears Barca fans may have had over the duo's fitness have been allayed by Enrique's comments, per Enis Koylu of Goal.com:

"

They look great. They've been spectacular. Messi and Neymar, along with Javier Mascherano and Dani Alves have come in handy. When you're on holiday, in addition to your work programme, there are instructions for diet. They've obviously followed them. I liked Neymar's performance and I liked all the players in the important aspects. This is the path we want to follow.

"

Both Neymar and Messi returned to action with goals on Wednesday as the Camp Nou giants beat Roma 3-0 in a pre-season friendly.

They looked as though they had never been away as Messi's pass ultimately set up Neymar's opener, per KICKTV:

Between them, they netted 65 goals as Barca won the La Liga title last term, and along with Luis Suarez, they combined to form world football's most devastating attacking unit, per WhoScored.com.

The Catalan giants return to competitive action for the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday against Sevilla ahead of the two-legged Spanish Super Cup versus Athletic Bilbao.

Athletic and Sevilla were no doubt hoping Messi and Neymar may be a little off of the pace after their summer of action, but it seems they will have no such luck.

Treble winners last season, Enrique's men will again be the team to beat in both La Liga and the Champions League this season.

Their Spanish top flight campaign for 2015-16 gets under way against Athletic on August 23.

Neymar and Messi may feel the effects of the summer further down the line as the season rumbles on, but if they are indeed in good form as Enrique suggests, Barca are likely to make a flying start in La Liga this season.
