A.J. Brown Deal Not 'Firm'
The men's and women's finals were tight affairs. Team USA won by identical 2-1 scores in overtime.
There was no such drama in Sunday's gold-medal clash.
Jack Wallace gave the U.S. a 1-0 lead in the first period. While Liam Hickey tied it up 1:45 into the second period, Wallace and Kayden Beasley scored to put the United States back in control. Wallace completed his hat trick in the third period as Declan Farmer and Brody Roybal added some insurance later in the frame.
"This team is so special," Wallace said on the ice following the victory (via The Athletic's Charlotte Carroll). "We love each other. This team grinded it out, a gritty f--king game. It was unbelievable. I love these guys so much."
The result capped off a dominant run from Team USA. The Americans blew past the competition in the preliminary round, winning their three games with a plus-32 goal margin. A 6-1 victory over Czechia in the semifinals followed that before getting the better of Canada.
China rounded out the medal podium after being Czechia 3-2 for bronze.
