Geno Smith Reacts to Jets Return After Trade From Raiders, 'Eager to Make Things Right'
Geno Smith is heading back to where it all started, and the veteran quarterback is "eager to make things right."
Smith was traded to the New York Jets, the team that drafted him, earlier this week by the Las Vegas Raiders. His first stint with the Jets wasn't ideal, but he thinks things will turn out differently this time around.
"I just felt like I was back where I belonged, man. It felt special," Smith told reporters. "When I was drafted there, my goal was to play my entire career for the Jets and one day retire as a Jet.
"And although it didn't go exactly as planned, somehow, some way we got back here and I'm eager to make things right if I can."
The Jets drafted Smith in the second round in 2013, and he spent the first four years of his career with the team. He was the starter his first two years, and it was nothing short of a disaster.
After stops with the New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers, Smith joined the Seattle Seahawks in 2019, and experienced a breakout year in 2022.
Now the veteran Smith returns to New York a much different version of himself, and he'll look to be the quarterback who helps the Jets turn things around after years of struggle.
