Cam Skattebo Gives Update on Ankle Injury, Timeline to Return to Giants Amid NFL Offseason

Paul KasabianMar 11, 2026

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo is making progress as he continues his rehab after suffering a dislocated ankle, fractured fibula, and ruptured deltoid ligament during a road game at the Philadelphia Eagles last October.

Skattebo gave some updates during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, saying he's running at about 75 percent capacity.

"I could get away from like a baby hippo maybe, that's about it," Skattebo joked (h/t SNY freelance editorial producer John Flanigan).

"But yeah, it's up to a little bit over a jog—kind of just striding out, not exploding and getting into that part of the game yet, but the jog and the striding to this point."

The good news: Skattebo believes he'll be back to 100 percent in a little over a month.

That would mean Skattebo can participate in OTA's (offseason team activities), mandatory minicamp and training camp. Dates aren't set for those yet, but using late year as a guide, OTA's were in late May and early June, mandatory minicamp was in mid-June and training camp began in late July.

"I'm excited, I'll be ready to go," Skattebo said.

The Giants selected Skattebo with the first pick of the fourth round in the 2025 NFL draft. He became an instant fan favorite and has remained that way due to his high-energy personality and the tough way he plays the game.

In eight games, the former Sacramento State and Arizona State star amassed 617 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns. That included a 110-yard, three-TD performance in a 34-17 win over the then-defending Super Bowl champion Eagles.

Giants fans will certainly be excited to see him back in action, and he's well on track to be back in the lineup for Week 1 in September.
