The Favorites
UConn and UCLA are going to be the prohibitive favorites.
The Huskies are stacked, as always, led by the dynamic trio of Sarah Strong (Big East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year), Azzi Fudd and Blanca Quiñonez (Big East Freshman of the Year and Sixth Woman of the Year).
Strong and Fudd were unanimous first-team all-conference selections.
It's always tough to bet against an undefeated side, especially one with UConn's pedigree. But the Huskies will have some competition, namely from the opposite coast.
UCLA senior center Lauren Betts leads a very talented Bruins team. The Big Ten Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year headlines a stacked roster that also includes fellow Big Ten first-team selection Kiki Rice and Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year Angela Dugalić.
UCLA is not to be taken lightly. Neither is the only team to beat them this year, Texas, which has gone 13-1 after back-to-back losses in mid-January. Texas has beaten South Carolina twice (in three tries), split its matchups against LSU and Vanderbilt and beat Oklahoma, all top-10 teams. The Longhorns navigated a brutal SEC schedule—don't sleep on them at the tourney.
