Geno Smith Drops Emoji Reaction to Jets Reunion After Raiders Trade During NFL Free Agency

Timothy RappMar 10, 2026

Geno Smith is back in the Big Apple, and he seems to be happy about it.

The veteran quarterback posted the following on social media after news broke that the Las Vegas Raiders had traded him to the New York Jets, the team where he started his NFL career:

Smith, 35, spent the first four years of his career with the Jets after being a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft. Like Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson after him, his time in New York didn't go well. He was primarily a backup in his final two seasons with the organization and signed with the New York Giants in 2017, starting the journeyman backup era of his career.

He eventually revitalized his career with the Seattle Seahawks, where he was a two-time Pro Bowler and the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year before being traded to the Raiders ahead of the 2025 season. That didn't go as planned (3,025, 19 touchdowns, 17 interceptions), though a patchwork offensive line and an offensive coordinator who was fired midseason (Chip Kelly) didn't help.

The Jets are in a full rebuild, meanwhile, so expectations won't be high in New York. But Smith and the Jets will be hoping for a more successful relationship than their first go-around.
