2026 World Baseball Classic Pool B: Team Mexico v Team USA

Randy Arozarena Rips Cal Raleigh in Multiple Languages in Trending Video After Viral Handshake Snub

Adam WellsMar 10, 2026

The World Baseball Classic is apparently strong enough to divide MLB teammates, as Cal Raleigh showed on Monday night when he snubbed Randy Arozarena during Team USA's 5-3 win over Mexico.

Raleigh refused a handshake from his Seattle Mariners teammate prior to his first at-bat.

Arozarena responded after the game by telling reporters he would use four different languages to rip into Raleigh:

In a translation of the comments by Sports Illustrated's Kyle Foster, Arozarena said he would tell Raleigh to "go f--k himself" in various languages.

The handshake snub has become something of a common occurrence at the World Baseball Classic.

It also happened last week when Czechia leadoff hitter Milan Prokhop went for a shake with Australian catcher Robbie Perkins only to be rebuffed.

Perkins appeared to say something to Prokhop, then both men nodded before moving on. Perkins clarified after the game there was "no malice" behind his move.

This is the second time the situation has happened to Arozarena against Team USA. He was snubbed by Will Smith during the 2023 tournament in Mexico's 11-5 win over the United States.

"I don't know," Arozarena said about the exchange. "I enjoy baseball from each game. So I also try to be happy when I play against ex-teammates. I saluted Goldy, since we played in St. Louis together, and (Smith) played [against] me in Triple-A when he was with the Dodgers."

This one might be a little more uncomfortable considering Arozarena and Raleigh are going to be back in the same clubhouse soon for the MLB season.

They have been teammates in Seattle since July 2024 when the Mariners acquired Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays. The duo played a huge role in the team winning the AL West and advancing to the American League Championship Series last season for the first time since 2001.

However, Mariners manager Dan Wilson said on Tuesday that he's "not concerned" about the situation:

Raleigh told reporters on Tuesday that "there's no beef" and that he reached out to Arozarena and Wilson:

Team USA's win improved its record to 3-0 going into its final game in pool play against Italy on Tuesday. If Italy loses that game, it will set up a showdown with Mexico on Wednesday to determine which team advances to the knockout round.
