Jon Jones Requests Release from UFC Contract After Dana White White House Card Remarks, Talks Injury

Andrew PetersMar 9, 2026

Jon Jones wants out of his contract after UFC president Dana White's comments over the weekend.

In a lengthy social media post, Jones discussed White's remarks, addressed his hip injury and asked to be released from his UFC contract.

"After everything I've given to the UFC, the years, the title defenses, the fights, hearing that I'm 'done' is disappointing," he wrote. "Especially when as recently as Friday UFC was calling me trying to get me on that White House card for a much lower number. If the UFC truly feels like I'm done, then I respectfully ask to be released from my contract today. No more spins, no more games."

On Saturday, White revealed the fight card for June's UFC event at the White House, and Jones was notably absent. In a press conference after the announcement, White said that Jones wasn't "even remotely in my mind to fight at the White House."

"The Jon Jones thing is bulls--t. I'm not saying they weren't talking to Jon Jones and that Jon Jones wasn't interested in the fight," White said. "What was even crazier was Jon Jones came out and was like, 'I'm in negotiations right now for the White House card,' after I had already sent a text to his lawyer saying, 'Never going to happen ever.'"

White added that Jones' doctors have said he "needs a hip replacement."

Jones announced his retirement from competition last June, which meant Tom Aspinall was named heavyweight champion. Jones appeared to be eyeing a comeback, however, as he said last week that he had been in talks about joining the fight card for the UFC event at the White House.

"I'm a very, very proud American, and I cannot wait to represent one more time. So, we'll see what happens," Jones said.

Now, it seems like Jones won't be entering the octagon anytime soon — at least not on a UFC card. Whether the 38-year-old will continue his career with another company remains to be seen.
