Finn Balor, Dana Brooke and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Ryan DilbertAug 5, 2015

For different reasons, WWE NXT stars Finn Balor and Dana Brooke had to feel as if they were soaring.

Brooke found herself traveling with the main roster despite not being in the WWE developmental system for long. Regardless of how raw she is and how much progress she has to make, the company clearly believes in her. That's half the battle of making it.

The NXT champ not only saw his face several times over during the early WWE 2K16 promotional campaign but made headlines by leaping so high off the turnbuckle that the arena couldn't contain him.

In other news, an NXT reality show is reportedly on the way, the granddaughter of a Hall of Famer got a tryout and Tough Enough is now short another indy wrestler.

Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas' Sister Receives WWE Tryout

The Rotunda family may see another member step into the ring. Mika Rotunda, sister of Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas, daughter of Mike Rotunda (most famous for playing Irwin R. Schyster) reportedly had a chance to impress WWE scouts.

PWInsider (h/t Wrestle Zone) reported that Mika tried out for WWE at the Performance Center.

Judging by her YouTube channel, she's clearly interested in doing television. How much her father and grandfather (Blackjack Mulligan) passed down their wrestling skills, however, has yet to be determined.

NXT Diva Works First Main-Roster Show

Dana Brooke is making her way through open doors aplenty early in her career. Not long after debuting on NXT, she got a chance to travel and work with the main roster.

Brooke wrestled on a WWE house show over the weekend. As noted on PWInsider, she teamed with Cameron against Emma and Natalya for a live event in Hidalgo, Texas.

This is often something WWE does for prospects who are close to getting a call-up. It's hard to imagine that's the case with her, though. Brooke has made progress since first arriving but is still miles away from being ready for the main roster.

Regardless, she got a taste of a larger stage, an experience that was surely a learning experience.

Finn Balor Flies Too High

These days, when saying that Finn Balor has been flying high, one has to specify how.

In terms of career momentum, he has plenty of it. After winning the NXT title, he's set to headline the next TakeOver special. In addition, he's been heavily featured in WWE 2K16 promotional material so far.

He made a cameo in the ad featuring the Terminator and was one of the first two Superstars to have their virtual entrances showcased.

Balor has been reaching new heights in the ring as well. During a live event in Lakeland, Florida, he leaped so high that he cracked his head on the ceiling. Balor tweeted a photo of the unusual crash.

WWE Plans to Produce NXT Reality Show

4 of 5

NXT will soon get some additional airtime by way of a reality show.

In its second-quarter-earnings report, WWE revealed plans to add an NXT behind-the-scenes program. The report on their corporate website read, "Exciting original programming coming to the network includes a reality series following the stars of NXT as they strive to make WWE's main roster."

The success of the NXT E:60 special speaks to how much interest there is in a project like this.

It's a no-brainer for WWE to go this route. It would allow fans to get better connected with NXT prospects, making their transition to the main roster easier. It would also give the company more exclusive content for the WWE Network and would be simple to produce.

Other News, Notes

The Tough Enough field continues to shrink. ZZ remains on the cast, despite the fact that WWE posted several videos showing him in a bad light.

Paige used her save on Gigi, which left Chelsea with the fewest votes. That marks the end of the road for one of the few contestants with indy wrestling experience.

And WWE has to be thrilled that NXT may just sell out the Barclays Center. PWInsider's Mike Johnson wrote, "I was told there were about 1,000 tickets left for NXT: TakeOver Brooklyn." That means that about 14,000 tickets have already been snatched up with about two weeks until the show kicks off.

That's impressive for an NXT event. It speaks to the continuing growth of the developmental brand and its place in the industry as a sort of super-indy promotion.
