Commanders' WR Depth Chart, Salary Cap After Stefon Diggs Contract in NFL Free Agency

Stefon Diggs has found his new team.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the veteran wide receiver agreed to a deal with the Washington Commanders following his release from the New England Patriots.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Diggs is expected to sign a one-year deal worth up $12 million. Washington had $44.2 million in salary cap space prior to the deal, per Spotrac.

With Diggs now on the team, here's a look at the Commanders' receiver room:

The deal comes after Diggs recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in 2025. While it was far from the kind of numbers Diggs has put up before, it was a solid year considering he was coming off a torn ACL.

Diggs also helped the Patriots go 14-3 and reach the Super Bowl for the first time since 2018.

Despite an overall decent year with the Pats, the team opted to move on from him, a move that saved them $26.5 million against the cap. According to Andrew Callahan and Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald, some within the organization viewed the 32-year-old as a "declining player."

Considering the reported assessment, it made sense that the Patriots, who are building for a future centered around quarterback Drake Maye, would want to move off Diggs and onto some younger talent.

Now with the Commanders, Diggs will look to make the same impact he made with New England last season. While it's hard to imagine Diggs returning to being an All-Pro receiver like he once was, he should make for a solid No. 2 alongside Terry McLaurin.

The Commanders appeared to be a team on the rise after making the NFC Championship Game in 2024, but they had a down year last year amid multiple injuries. Getting Jayden Daniels another playmaker on offense should help Washington improve in 2026.
