Mets Prospect Ryan Lambert Explains Eating 30 Raw Eggs a Day for His Diet as Story Goes Viral

Adam WellsFeb 26, 2026

New York Mets prospect Ryan Lambert has taken a page from the Rocky Balboa handbook by consuming raw eggs as part of his diet and training regimen.

Speaking to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, Lambert explained he began eating 30 raw eggs every day for a month to help build muscle and improve his body's recovery rate.

"Day 1, it was an adjustment for sure," Lambert said. "But I'm not a chicken. I like a little adversity and challenge. It kind of gets me going."

DiComo noted Lambert became intrigued by the idea of eating 2.5 dozen raw eggs per day about two years ago after seeing an online video touting the health benefits of doing so.

Even though Lambert is no longer downing 30 raw eggs as part of his diet, whatever he has been doing to improve his body seems to be working.

The 23-year-old started his college career at an Iowa junior college before transferring to Missouri State and later Oklahoma before becoming an eighth-round pick by the Mets in the 2024 MLB draft.

Lambert's fastball was his primary selling point as a draft prospect. His heater would touch 101 mph with a 31.2 percent whiff rate during the 2024 college season.

FanGraphs' Eric Longenhagen wrote during the 2025 season that Lambert's slider looked much better than it did when he was in college, giving him a strong two-pitch mix as he looks to make the Mets bullpen in 2026.

The right-hander posted a 1.62 ERA with 81 strikeouts and 31 hits allowed in 50 innings across two levels in the minors last season. He pitched 39 games at Double-A, so it's not a stretch to think he could get to the big leagues relatively soon this season.
