Will Mac Jones Be Traded? 49ers GM John Lynch Discusses What it Would Take to Move QB
San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch doesn't plan on trading backup quarterback Mac Jones unless he gets the right offer.
"He's really good for us and we value that," Lynch told reporters Tuesday. "And so somebody would have to come with something fairly strong for us to consider (trading him). And then I don't know what we do. Obviously there's always something that would make you (do it), but I think we're a better team with him on it and we just like having him around."
It wouldn't be shocking if the 49ers looked to trade Jones this offseason.

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
After all, he is under contract for just one more year, and moving him prior to the 2026 campaign would be selling high on someone who is expected to be the backup to Brock Purdy once again next season.
The Alabama product filled in admirably for the injured Purdy last season and went 5-3 in eight starts while completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.
While Jones never lived up to expectations with the New England Patriots after they selected him with the No. 15 overall pick of the 2021 NFL draft, he did enough last season that he may have caught the eye of other teams in need of quarterback help.
That is especially the case this offseason with an NFL draft that doesn't feature any surefire first-round signal-callers outside of Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Teams in need of a quarterback only have so many options, so the 49ers could have an opportunity to get something of significance in return by trading a backup who could leave the team in free agency next offseason anyway.
But Lynch made it clear the team will only move him for the right price, which also isn't surprising since last season showed just how important it is to have a backup quarterback who can keep the offense afloat if needed.
