Garcia wasted no time in showing that this would be one of the best performances of his career. He knocked down Barrios in the first 30 seconds of the fight.
Garcia has been unsteady at times in his career, but this was not one of those times. He showcased a full arsenal as his hand speed was too much for Barrios.
While KingRy has typically leaned on his left hook, he was able to showcase his right hand with regularity.
The Ring contextualized Garcia's efficiency compared to the last time we saw in the ring. He landed more power punches through eight rounds than he did in the entire fight his last time out.
There was no shortage of praise for the performance from Garcia. He finally put it all together and cashed in his potential for a dominant title victory.
The win is a breakthrough moment for Garcia. He's been able to build a massive following in boxing, but becoming a world champion had proven elusive.
Major bouts against Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney have highlighted Garcia's resume. None had brought him a world title.
Now, he's one of four welterweight champions and has set the stage for even bigger fights moving forward. For instance, Haney is now the WBO champion and there could be mass interest in Garcia running it back against him to unify the belts.
However, it's 140-pound Shakur Stevenson who has been on Garcia's mind recently. He
"I've been waiting for that rematch since I was in the amateurs," Garcia told The Ring. "I beat him for sure. He knows when he's in the ring with me, it ain't gonna be like what he does to these other guys. I got the same fast twitch. I have the same eye movements. He's never fought a fighter as quick as him in every way, so we got to see what he could do with me."
Stevenson beat Garcia when they were both amateurs and a rematch would certainly draw a ton of interest.
Official prize money hasn't been released for the bout at this point. However, Garcia reportedly made $20 million for his last fight against Rolly Romero. Meanwhile, Romero, who beat Garcia made $5 million.
