Taylor Swift Reacts to Mikaela Shiffrin Posting Song Lyrics After Olympic Gold-Medal Drought Ends

Mikaela Shiffrin received a shoutout from Taylor Swift following her gold medal victory in the women's ski slalom final on Wednesday.

After Shiffrin captioned her Instagram post celebrating the win with lyrics from "Ruin the Friendship" on Swift's latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, the 14-time Grammy Award winner responded in a comment (h/t Skyler Caruso of People).

"HISTORIC 🥇🥇🥇," Swift wrote.

With the slalom win, Shiffrin became the most decorated skier in Olympic history as well as the first United States skier to earn three Olympic gold medals. It also represented her first gold at the Games since 2018.

Shiffrin is a noted fan of Swift, previously discussing her influence in Jan. 2024.

"I've spent 15 years studying Taylor Swift and she has been guiding me a little bit every step of the way," Shiffrin told Bill Pennington of the New York Times, via Caruso.

"It's why most Swifties become Swifties," she added. "It feels like her music is speaking directly to you. Her experiences resonate; I've always tried to learn from them."

Shiffrin won by 1.50 seconds over Switzerland's Camille Rast in Wednesday's final, representing the largest margin of victory in any Olympic alpine skiing competition since 1998.
