Jazz Chisholm Jr. Talks Yankees Contract, MLB Trade Rumors Ahead of 2026 Season

Scott PolacekFeb 19, 2026

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is entering the final season of his contract with the New York Yankees, which means there could be plenty of rumors about his future during the 2026 campaign.

But he is used to that from his time on the Miami Marlins.

"I was in trade rumors every day over there," Chisholm said, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. "I feel like it's just a thing with business. (The Yankees are) obviously going to listen. I'm a hot topic. … At the end of the day, is a trade going to be realistic? Not really."

It seems like he doesn't expect to be traded, which would make sense if the Yankees live up to expectations as a contender this season.

But he also revealed he has not had any contract extension talks with New York even though he doesn't want to leave.

"I think anybody would want to be here for the rest of their career," Chisholm said. "I haven't heard anything yet. I left that all in my team's hands. I'm just playing baseball."

New York acquired the 28-year-old from the Marlins via a 2024 trade, and he was excellent for the American League East team during his first full season in 2025. He slashed .242/.332/.481 with 31 home runs, 80 RBI and 31 stolen bases.

He was selected to his second career All-Star Game and won a Silver Slugger as a result all while playing a solid second base with plus-two defensive runs saved above average, per FanGraphs.

Chisholm is just 28 years old and largely thrived with the Yankees last season. If he does so again, it would be anything but surprising if those contract talks begin in earnest, especially since he made no secret that he wants to stay put.

For now, though, he is just focused on helping the 2026 Yankees in their pursuit of a World Series title.
