Mikaela Shiffrin Posts Photo With Olympic Gold Medal After Ending Drought, 'Not A Lot Going On'

American skier Mikaela Shiffrin savored both a gold medal and a much earned break following her victory in the women's slalom on Wednesday.

"Not a lot going on right now…" she wrote on social media alongside a picture of her laying down on a bed with her Winter Olympics hardware:

Shifffrin celebrated what she described as a "pretty spectacular day" with family and friends in Milano Cortina. The festivities included her trying an espresso martini for the first time.

The 30-year-old collected her third Olympic gold in dominant fashion. Her combined time of 1:39.10 was 1.50 seconds faster than silver medalist Camille Rast. For some perspective, 1.53 seconds separated Rast from 13th-place finisher Martina Peterlini.

Shiffrin ended the 2026 Olympics on a high note after a tough start to her time in Italy. She had a 14th-place showing in the slalom portion of the team event, which denied her and Breezy Johnson of a spot on the podium. She followed that by winding up 11th in the giant slalom.

The most decorated alpine skier in World Cup history, Shiffrin was potentially looking at a second straight Winter Games without any medal.

You could almost see the weight lift off the Colorado native's shoulders once she realized she won Wednesday.

This was also her first Olympic medal since the death of her father in 2020. Her dad wasn't far from her thoughts as she reflected on her journey back to the pinnacle of the sport.

"This was a moment I have dreamed about," she said. "I've also been very scared about this moment. Everything in life that you do after you lose someone you love is like a new experience. I still have so many moments where I resist this. I don't want to be in life without my dad. And maybe, today was the first time that I could accept this reality."

For a number of reasons, Shiffrin fully deserved to rejoice in what she achieved on the slope.
