Norway's Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo joined some elite company as one of the most decorated Olympic competitors of all time.

After winning the men's team sprint alongside Einar Hedegart at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics on Wednesday with a time of 18 minutes, 28.9 seconds, Klaebo now has 10 gold medals in cross-country skiing, including five at this year's Games alone.

Klaebo is now just the second Olympian ever to win at least 10 gold medals, joining legendary swimmer Michael Phelps, who won 23 golds across four Olympic Games.

"It's obviously very satisfying to make this happen," Klaebo said after Wednesday's win, per ESPN. "The team sprint is one of the most fun events, but also one of the hardest."

Klaebo has been victorious in every race he's entered in the 2026 Winter Games, and his five wins so far set a Winter Olympics record. He's not done yet, as he will look to add a sixth gold medal in Saturday's 50-kilometer mass start. He would join Phelps, fellow swimmers Mark Spitz and Kristin Otto and gymnast Vitaly Scherbo as the only competitors ever to win six golds at one Olympics.

"There are so many strong teams and so many fast skiers, so it always comes down to tight battles," Klaebo said. "That makes it even more rewarding."
