With a score of 112.90, China's Xu Mengtao repeated as the gold medalist in freestyle skiing women's aerials Wednesday at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

Australia's Danielle Scott followed with a score of 102.17 to win silver, while China's Shao Qi took bronze by scoring 101.90.

Six skiers qualified for the final jump and the right to compete for a medal. The final finishing order was as follows:

  1. Xu Mengtao (China): 112.90

2. Danielle Scott (Australia): 102.17

3. Shao Qi (China): 101.90

4. Kong Fanyu (China): 101.31

5. Kaila Kuhn (USA): 99.16

6. Winter Vinecki (USA): 90.58

Xu became the first skier to ever win back-to-back Olympic golds in women's aerials, and she is now a four-time Olympic medalist overall, as she previously won silver in women's aerials in 2014 and silver in mixed team aerials in 2022.

China has been the dominant nation in women's aerials for the majority of the time it has been part of the Olympic program, which started back in 1994.

At least one Chinese skier has now medaled at six consecutive Olympics, and China's 10 all-time medals in women's aerials are an Olympic record.

Scott became the third different Aussie skier to medal in women's aerials at the Winter Olympics, joining Alisa Camplin and Lydia Lassila.

Australia's five all-time Olympic medals in women's aerials are now the second-most in history, trailing only China.

Team USA got two skiers through to the six-woman final on Wednesday, but neither Kuhn nor Vinecki managed to reach the podium.

American Nikki Stone won gold in women's aerials way back at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, and the U.S. did not medal again in the event until 2022 when Megan Nick won bronze.

Kuhn and Vinecki had a chance to earn the U.S. medals in women's aerials at back-to-back Olympics for the first time ever, but neither were able to land their final jumps cleanly.
