USA vs. Sweden Men's Hockey Pick
2 of 2
Auston Matthews scored two goals in Team USA's prelim victory over Germany and now, Captain America will look to build on that momentum as he leads his team against Sweden in the quarterfinals.
The Americans have yet to play to their fullest strength and have struggled at the forward position, a weakness that could be exposed Wednesday against Sweden. Luckily for them, the Swedish team has struggled in its own right, with its own roster of NHLers not gelling as well as imagined.
Still, the team figures to be the greatest competition and stiffest test the Americans have faced to this point and could get a game out of them unlike any the USA has seen since the opening minutes of the Latvia game to kick off these Olympics.
Even if it is, this is among the best squads the United States has ever produced and one that has the best blue line and goaltending in this tournament. Their weakness may be exposed, but their strengths are such that they should still pull out the victory and advance to the semifinals.
Prediction: Team USA over Sweden, 3-1
