'It Was Brutal,' Aaron Judge Reacts to Yankees' Slow Start to 2025 MLB Free Agency

The New York Yankees had a slow start to free agency this offseason and, just like fans, Aaron Judge grew impatient with his team.

"It was brutal," Judge told reporters on Monday. "Early on it was pretty tough to watch. I'm like, 'Man, we're the New York Yankees. Let's go out there and get the right people.'"

After center fielder Trent Grisham accepted the Yankees' qualifying offer, they mostly went quiet as stars such as Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso and more signed elsewhere.

"Let's sign these guys right now and start adding more pieces because I'm seeing other teams around the league get better," Judge said. "They're making trades. They're signing big prospects or big players. And we're sitting there for a while kind of making smaller moves."

Judge, a captain for the Yankees, said that he voiced his opinions to the front office throughout the offseason.

New York eventually re-signed Cody Bellinger to a five-year deal in late January, which arguably made up for the slow offseason.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman addressed the conservative approach to the offseason at Winter Meetings in December.

"It's that time of year. You hope you run into some things," Cashman said. "Last year, I know we were able to get a lot of things done from the Winter Meetings and beyond. I don't think there's as deep a need as there was last year, but there's things I'm obviously trying to do."

Ultimately, Judge said he feels good about where the Yankees are heading into the season as they look to win their first World Series since 2009.

"It was frustrating, but I think we're right where we need to be," he said.
