'Quad God' Posts About 'Vile Online Hatred Attacks' with Ominous Teaser Video After Olympic Collapse

American figure skater Ilia Malinin teased a deeper look at his roller-coaster run in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The "Quad God" posted on Instagram that fans will learn more on Saturday, Feb. 21.

"On the world's biggest stage, those who appear the strongest may still be fighting invisible battles on the inside," he said. "Even your happiest memories can end up tainted by the noise. Vile online hatred attacks the mind and fear lures it into the darkness, no matter how hard you try to stay sane through the endless insurmountable pressure. It all builds up as these moments flash before your eyes, resulting in an inevitable crash. This is that version of the story."

Malinin represented Team USA when it opened the figure skating portion of the Winter Games with a gold in the team event. His total score of 98.00 was second behind Japan's Yuma Kagiyama in men's singles.

Malinin's 2026 Olympics will be remembered more for his stunning collapse in the standalone singles competition, though.

The 21-year-old was the leader after the short program, and a gold felt like a fait accompli given his singular talent on the ice.

Instead, a pair of falls and some small mistakes in the free skate resulted in an eighth-place finish. From an American perspective, it's arguably the biggest shock of the Olympics so far.

USA Today's Jordan Mendoza noted Saturday is the day of the Olympic exhibition gala. Malinin may be channeling all of the outside noise into his routine for the event.
