Nick Castellanos Reflects on Phillies Tenure, 'Miami Incident' on Video After Padres Contract

Timothy RappFeb 16, 2026

Nick Castellanos' time with the Philadelphia Phillies was fated for divorce the moment he brought a beer to the dugout after being removed for a defensive substitution against the Miami Marlins in June.

Castellanos admitted to doing so in an Instagram post he released before Matt Gelb of The Athletic broke the story regarding the Miami incident. The outfielder has since signed with the San Diego Padres after being released by the Phillies, and on Sunday, he spoke about the situation and his change of scenery this winter.

"In the moment, I felt how I felt, and I spoke from the heart, and I was honest in every word that I said," he told reporters. "It's not like I was outwardly, ever displaying that, you know, like I kept it all inside, but when I was asked a question, I shot straight, and then people perceived it how they wanted to."
