USA, Canada and Olympic Hockey Sunday Group Results Ahead of Men's KO Bracket
Canada beat out the United States for the top seed in the men's hockey knockout-round bracket at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Canada benefited from a 10-goal output against France on Sunday to own the edge in goal differential over Team USA.
The Americans completed the group stage with a perfect record, but the No. 2 seed comes with a disadvantage. They will most likely face Sweden in the quarterfinals.
Sweden and seven other nations will compete in a playoff round to determine the opponents for the top four seeds.
Canada, USA, Slovakia and Finland earned automatic berths into the quarterfinals thanks to their group-stage performances.
Group A
1 of 2
1 Canada (3-0; 9 points)
2. Switzerland (2-1; 5 points)
3. Czechia (1-2; 4 points)
4. France (0-3; 0 points)
Sunday's Results
Canada 10, France 2
Switzerland 4, Czechia 3 (Final/OT)
Canada walloped France in its final group-stage game.
Macklin Celebrini's two-goal performance headlined the 12-goal shootout.
Celebrini, Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby all had three points in the lopsided victory that gave Canada the top spot in Group A and the No. 1 seed in the knockout round.
Canada earned the No. 1 seed due to a superior goal differential in comparison to Team USA. The top seed will give Canada an easier quarterfinal matchup on paper against either Czechia or Denmark.
Switzerland took second in Group A with its overtime win over Czechia.
The Swiss secured the No. 5 seed in the knockout-round bracket, which gives it an easy matchup with No. 12 seed Italy.
The Swiss will most likely win that game and set up a quarterfinal clash with Finland.
Group C
2 of 2
1 United States (3-0; 9 points)
2. Germany (1-2; 3 points)
3. Denmark (1-2; 3 points)
4. Latvia (1-2; 3 points)
Sunday's Results
United States 5, Germany 1
Denmark 4, Latvia 2
Team USA cruised to its third win of the Milan Cortina Games.
Auston Matthews netted a pair of goals, while Zach Werenski, Brock Faber and Tage Thompson tallied a goal each.
The win confirmed the No. 2 seed for Team USA, a placement that likely comes with a matchup against Sweden.
Sweden faces Latvia in the No. 7-versus-No. 10 knockout-round matchup.
Latvia finished fourth in Group C because it lost the head-to-head tiebreaker with Germany and Denmark.
Denmark used a late goal in the third period to finish in third place in Group C.
Despite the loss, Germany grabbed the No. 6 seed and an ideal matchup with France to start the knockout round. Germany will likely face Slovakia in the quarterfinals.
