Japan's Horishima Saves Fall, Finishes Dual Moguls Backwards in Viral Video on Way to Medal

Sunday's dual mogul at the Milan Cortina Olympics had one of the wilder finishes you'll ever see in skiing.

Japan's Ikuma Horishima stumbled, but caught himself, turning backwards in the process and crossing the finish line that way. He was able to advance to the gold medal race and earned silver.

Horishima started to lose control before the final jump and was then launched awkwardly into the air when he hit the ramp. After regaining his balance, he managed to not miss any of the gates as he crossed the finish line.

He finished just ahead of USA's Nick Page, though it wouldn't have mattered whether he finished first since Page had been disqualified for missing a gate during his run.

In the gold medal race, he finished behind Canada's Mikaël Kingsbury but ahead of Australia's Matt Graham to earn silver.

The silver medal marks Horishima's best finish in the Winter Olympics. He had previously earned a bronze medal in moguls in 2022 and a bronze in moguls at this year's Games.

Dual moguls, which debuted at the 2026 Winter Olympics, have seen a handful of chaotic finishes already. In the women's semifinal on Saturday, America's Jaelin Kauf appeared to be out of the race after an early crash, but France's Perrine Laffont was disqualified for missing a gate, paving the way for Kauf to get back into and eventually win the race.

After her impressive comeback, Kauf went on to win silver in the event.
