Trending Norway Skier Makes History with Most Gold Medals Ever at Winter Olympic After Viral Video

Fans in the United States may have just learned about Norway cross-country skiing star Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo when a stunning video of him skiing uphill at a sub-six minute mile pace went viral, but he secured his place as an all-time Olympic great Sunday.

As Derek Gatopoulos and Brian Melley of the Associated Press reported, Klaebo anchored Norway's winning cross-country team in the men's 4 x 7.5 km relay. 

Norway captured the gold with a time of 1:04:24.5, while France (1:04:46.7) and Italy (1:05:12.4) took home silver and bronze, respectively.

In the process, Klaebo won the ninth gold medal of his career, which is the Winter Olympics record. He was previously tied with three fellow Norwegians in cross-country skiers Marit Bjoergen and Bjoern Daehlie and biathlete Ole Einar Bjoerndalen.

The victory is yet another triumph at the 2026 Games for Klaebo, who also won the gold in the men's 10 km, men's 10 km + 10 km skiathlon and the men's sprint classic.

"I like the sound of that! It's a pretty nice title," Klaebo said of his record.

"But it's special to do this together with this group. In Norway, winning the relay is what really matters—and today we all delivered. We've had so much fun—both here and at training camps throughout the year. It's been a great season. Today, even though everyone was nervous, there was still a relaxed atmosphere."

Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre was among those in attendance to see him set the record and secure his place in Winter Olympics history.
