Here's a look at the race results from Sunday in Milan.
Gold: Femke Kok, the Netherlands (36.49 seconds)
Silver: Jutta Leerdam, the Netherlands (37.15s)
Bronze: Miho Takagi, Japan (37.27s)
Leerdam was skating for her second title after a historic win in the women's 1,000m last Monday.
She completed the 1,000m race in 1:12.31 to set a new Olympic record, win her first gold medal of the Games and join Femke Kok in helping the Dutch sweep the top of the podium.
In the 500m, Leerdam came just 0.14 seconds shy of her personal-best 500m time of 37.01 seconds.
Kok followed up Leerdam's race by setting an Olympic record of her own to help the Netherlands claim the top two spots on the 500m podium.
Japan's Miho Takagi entered the 500m race as an eight-time Olympic medalist. She added a ninth medal to her career total by taking home the bronze.
Leerdam, who is engaged to boxer Jake Paul, was at risk for missing out on the Dutch team for her signature 1,000-meter event after crashing during her country's national trials in December.
The 27-year-old was ultimately selected to compete in the 1000m race after winning two ISU Speed Skating World Cup events in the distance earlier this season, in addition to her qualification for the 500m event.
That choice paid off for the Netherlands, whose gold medal count has now climbed to five with Leerdam's 1,000m win and Kok's 500m victory.
Leerdam will leave Milan with three career Olympic medals after also earning a silver in the 1,000m during the 2022 Beijing Games.
