Preview and Prediction
2 of 2
Leerdam will enter Sunday's race as the favorite following her historic run on Monday, but she is not the only Dutch athlete to keep an eye on.
Her fellow countrywoman, Famke Kok, is the defending world champion and finished second to Leerdam in the 1000m race. Kok also holds the world record in the event, making her an even tougher opponent for the most popular speed skater in the world.
Leerdam has proven resilient throughout her pursuit of the Olympics, overcoming a crash that nearly left her out of the 1000m race and paying off the Dutch selection committee's trust and faith in her.
That determination and momentum that she has on her side entering Sunday's competition should be enough for her to secure a podium finish, at the very least.
A gold medal finish, though, would solidify one of the greatest speed skating performances ever.
Prediction: Leerdam takes silver
