
USA, Canada and Olympic Hockey Thursday Group Results Ahead of Men's KO Bracket
The United States and Canada each scored five goals in their 2026 Winter Olympics openers on Thursday.
Team USA produced a 5-1 win over Latvia behind a pair of goals from Brock Nelson.
Canada knocked off Czechia by a 5-0 score. Nathan MacKinnon, Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini all found their way on to the point sheet.
Team USA and Canada both sit on top of their respective groups. The three group winners and the best second-place team in the men's tournament automatically advance to the quarterfinals.

Canada turned in a dominant showing against Czechia thanks to some of the biggest names on its roster.
Connor McDavid had three assists, including one on the opener scored by Macklin Celebrini.
McDavid also assisted on a power-play goal by Nathan MacKinnon and on Nick Suzuki's tally.
Mark Stone and Bo Horvat scored the other two goals for the Group A leader.
Switzerland kicked off its Olympics with a 4-0 win over France powered by two Timo Meier goals.
The New Jersey Devils forward finished off the victory with a pair of third-period tallies.
Damien Riat and J.J. Moser scored the first two Swiss goals.
Canada and Switzerland face off on Friday, a game that will likely decide the top spot in Group A. Czechia takes on France in Friday's other Group A contest.

Germany 3, Denmark 1
The United States broke away from Latvia with a three-goal second period.
Brock Nelson scored a pair of goals and Tage Thompson found the back of the net during the second-period scoring surge.
Brady Tkachuk scored the first Team USA goal of the tournament five minutes into the contest.
Latvia scored an equalizer two minutes later. The United States had two goals called off in the first period as well.
Auston Matthews finished off the win with a third-period strike to help put Team USA on top of Group C ahead of Germany on goal differential.
Leon Draisaitl opened the scoring for Germany on his first Olympic shift. The Edmonton Oilers star scored 23 seconds into the clash with Denmark.
The Germans pulled away in the second period as well behind a pair of goals from Tim Stutzle of the Ottawa Senators.
Team USA faces Denmark next on Saturday, while Germany takes on Latvia in the other Group C contest.
