Chloe Kim will go after her third consecutive gold medal in women's snowboarding halfpipe on Thursday at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Kim was the top qualifier in the event and the only athlete to put up a score over 90 points.

The 25-year-old is the clear favorite to claim gold, but she will face challenges from fellow American Maddie Mastro and Japan's Sara Shimizu.

Preview

Chloe Kim enters the halfpipe final as the two-time reigning gold medalist in the event and the top qualifier.

All of the pressure will be on the 25-year-old American to pull off her third Olympic victory in a row.

Kim is dealing with a shoulder issue, but that didn't seem to harm her during the qualifying run that garnered a score of 90.25.

Japan's Sara Shimizu and Maddie Mastro of the USA filled out the top three in qualifying.

Three other finalists are worth watching in the medal hunt.

Queralt Castellet of Spain, who qualified seventh, was the silver medalist in Beijing in 2022. Beijing bronze medalist Sena Tomita qualified ninth.

South Korea's Gaon Choi won three of the five halfpipe events on the FIS World Cup circuit this season and is the World Cup leader in the event.

At her best, Kim can beat everyone in the field. If she delivers a third straight gold, she will go down as one of the best athletes in her specific sport in Olympic history.
