Barry Bonds, CC Sabathia Reportedly Eyed by Netflix for Giants vs. Yankees MLB Opening Day Game

Adam WellsFeb 11, 2026

As Netflix prepares to broadcast its first-ever MLB game between the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees on March 25, the streamer is looking to add legendary players from each franchise to enhance the broadcast.

Per The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, Netflix is trying to land both Barry Bonds and CC Sabathia as part of the crew calling the game.

Marchand noted that if a deal comes together, Bonds would likely be on site at Oracle Park for pre- and post-game shows.

As part of MLB's new media rights deal signed in November, Netflix got rights to an exclusive Opening Night game, the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Home Run Derby and the Field of Dreams game.

The Opening Night game will feature the Giants and Yankees in San Francisco.

Netflix has announced former SportsCenter anchor Elle Duncan will lead its sports and live event coverage.

Bonds spent 15 of his 22 MLB seasons with the Giants. He won five of his seven NL MVP awards while playing for the organization and led them to a World Series appearance in 2002.

After Bonds' final season in 2007, he wouldn't return to Oracle Park again for a decade. He was hired as an assistant to club president Larry Baer in 2017.

Baer revealed last summer that the Giants are planning to honor Bonds with a statue outside of the stadium, but he didn't offer any specifics about where it would be located or when it would be put up.

"Barry is certainly deserving of a statue, and I would say should be next up," Baer said. "We don't have the exact location and the exact date and the exact timing. ... It's coming. All I can say is it's coming."

Bonds remains MLB's all-time home-run leader with 762.

Sabathia, a 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, joined the Yankees as a free agent after the 2008 season. His 134 career wins as a member of the Yankees ranks 10th all-time in franchise history.

In his post-playing career, Sabathia has had a successful transition into broadcasting. He has worked for ESPN and MLB Network. The six-time All-Star also co-hosted a podcast with Ryan Ruocco for six years from 2017 to '23.
