Sweden vs. Italy Men's Hockey Prediction
2 of 3
Sweden's hockey team consists of NHL players, including an astonishing nine that have scored 40 or more points. It is a team that can skate with any country in this year's games and realistically compete for a medal.
The same cannot be said for Italy, which touts zero players on an NHL main roster.
To say that Wednesday's game will see the host country outmatched is an understatement. With William Nylander, Victor Hedman, and captain Gabriel Landeskog leading the way, it will be a long day for the Italian squad and, likely, one of the most emphatic messages sent by any of the men's teams in this year's games by the time the final buzzer sounds.
Sweden wins big here.
Prediction: Sweden, and it's not even close
Slovakia vs. Finland Men's Hockey Prediction
3 of 3
Much like Sweden, Finland possesses the better team entering Wednesday's play.
It has NHL stars such as Mikko Rantanen, Sebastian Aho, and Miro Heiskanen on the roster that the Slovakian squad does not. Its strength is its defense, which bodes well against a team that has no flashy offense whatsoever.
Slovakia does have a quality defense in its own right, so it is likely that the game is kept close, a recipe for a potential upset.
If the Slovakian team can limit Finland's scoring opportunities, it will stay in the game and have a real shot at a victory. With that said, the veteran leadership on the Finnish team is too great for the opposition to overcome and should lead them to a win, even if it is tougher than it may appear on paper.
Prediction: Finland bests Slovakia
