Justin Verlander Reacts to Tigers Reunion with Throwback Video After Contract in MLB Free Agency

Justin Verlander reacted to his reunion with the Detroit Tigers in free agency on Tuesday.

Verlander posted a montage of his highlights from his first stint as a member of the Tigers on X.

"Back where it all started," Verlander wrote in the caption.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner signed a one-year contract worth $13 million with Detroit, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. The deal includes $11 million in deferrals.

Verlander opened his storied MLB career on the Tigers in 2005, appearing in 380 games with the club until he was traded to the Houston Astros in the middle of the 2017 season.

The 42-year-old ranks No. 2 on Detroit's all-time strikeouts list as well as No. 7 on the team's all-time wins leaderboard.

Verlander compiled a 3.49 ERA while averaging 8.5 strikeouts per nine innings with the Tigers, earning American League MVP honors in 2011.

He recently spent the 2025 season with the San Francisco Giants, posting a 4-11 record in 29 starts to go along with a 3.85 ERA and 1.362 WHIP.

As for the Tigers, they're attempting to clinch their third consecutive postseason berth in 2026 after making an ALDS appearance last year.
