The Rock's TKO Royalties, Reimbursements Revealed
WWE announced during Monday night's episode of Raw that Bron Breakker is out indefinitely after suffering an injury during training, and additional information has since emerged regarding his status.
According to PWInsider.com (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Breakker injured himself when he flipped the announce table last week on Raw, and he subsequently required surgery to repair a hernia.
In a follow-up, PWInsider.com (h/t Carrier) noted that the hernia was an existing issue before last week's Raw, and the decision was made for Breakker to undergo surgery after perhaps exacerbating the issue.
Now, there are some conflicting reports regarding when Breakker may be able to return to action.
Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestle Ops), Breakker could be out anywhere from three to six months.
Even on the low end of that estimate, Breakker would have to miss WrestleMania 42, which is scheduled for April 18 and 19 in Las Vegas.
However, Fightful Select (h/t Carrier) reported that WWE officials are "optimistic" Breakker will be able to make it back in time for WrestleMania.
At Royal Rumble, a masked and hooded assailant attacked Breakker and hit him with Seth Rollins' signature Stomp. That allowed Oba Femi to easily eliminate Breakker from the Rumble.
It would seem as though the angle was done to set the stage for Breakker vs. Rollins at WrestleMania 42, provided Rollins is healed from a shoulder injury that has kept him out since October.
Now, Breakker's WrestleMania status is in question as well, meaning a big-time match may have to be removed from the card entirely.
Latest on Timetable for Dominik's In-Ring Return
Dominik Mysterio has not wrestled a match in nearly two months, but his in-ring absence may not last much longer.
According to Fightful Select (h/t Carrier), WWE is "hopeful" Dominik will be able to return to the ring "in the near future."
That lines up with the fact that WWE has announced Dominik's participation in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match against Gunther and Je'Von Evans next week on Raw.
Dirty Dom won back the Intercontinental Championship from John Cena at Survivor Series on Nov. 29, and he didn't wrestle again until AAA Guerra De Titanes on Dec. 20 when he and El Grande Americano lost a tag team match to Rey Mysterio and Penta.
Dominik has not wrestled a match since then, although he did return to WWE programming after Royal Rumble to celebrate Liv Morgan's Royal Rumble victory.
On this week's episode of Raw, Dom was in the ring for a promo segment with Liv, which also included women's world champion Stephanie Vaquer.
Although Mysterio did not wrestle a match on Raw, he took a slap from Vaquer, and he mentioned during a backstage segment that Raw general manager Adam Pearce was pressuring him to defend the IC title since he hasn't done so since winning it at Survivor Series.
That would suggest plans are in place for Dominik to put the title on the line in the not-too-distant future.
Unless WWE is planning a bait-and-switch, Mysterio figures to have his first match in nearly two months next week on Raw, and that could start the process of setting up his storyline and match for WrestleMania 42.
El Grande Americano Match Reportedly Planned for WrestleMania 42
A battle of the El Grande Americanos is reportedly in the works for WrestleMania 42.
According to WrestleVotes of Fightful Select (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), WWE "sees the money" in a El Grande Americano vs. El Grande Americano match, and it is considered a "surefire WrestleMania match."
Before an injury landed him on the shelf for seven months, Chad Gable portrayed the masked El Grande Americano character. Rather than taking the character off television when Gable got hurt, WWE simply transferred it.
Ludwig Kaiser took over as El Grande Americano during Gable's absence, and he even expanded the presentation by adding Los Americanos, who are played by Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate.
At Royal Rumble, Gable made his surprise return in the El Grande Americano gimmick, going by the name The Original El Grande Americano, and he immediately targeted Kaiser's version of El Grande Americano.
The rivalry continued this week on Raw, as Gable teamed with Evans to beat Los Americanos in a tag match.
After the match, Kaiser tried to unmask Gable, but Gable managed to turn the tables, causing Kaiser to retreat.
Everything is indeed pointing toward El Grande Americano vs. El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 42, perhaps with the loser having to unmask and cede the El Grande Americano character to the winner.
