USA, Canada and Olympic Hockey Monday Group Results Ahead of Women's KO Bracket
The United States and Canada continued to cruise, as expected, in women's hockey group play at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Monday.
Team USA picked up its third win in Group A against Switzerland, while Canada earned its second win of the competition versus Czechia.
The two North American rivals face each other in Tuesday in the first of what is expected to be two meetings at the Milan Cortina Games.
The rest of the field appears to be playing for bronze. Seven of the eight knockout-round teams have been confirmed after Monday's games.
All five teams advance out of Group A along with the top three nations from Group B.
Germany put itself in a good spot to earn that eighth knockout-round position with its overtime win over France on Monday.
Women's Group A
1 of 2
1 United States (3-0; 9 points)
2. Canada (2-0; 6 points)
3. Czechia (1-2; 4 points)
4. Switzerland (1-2; 2 points)
5. Finland (0-2; 0 points)
Monday's Results
United States 5. Switzerland 0
Canada 5, Czechia 1
Team USA moved to 3-0 in group play with another emphatic win in which it scored five goals.
Haley Winn, Joy Dunne, Hannah Bilka, Alex Carpenter and Caroline Harvey scored a goal each in the American victory.
Team USA outscored its opponents 15-1 in Milan, but none of that matters if it can't beat Canada on Tuesday and potentially in the gold medal game.
The United States and Canada will play Tuesday for the top seed in the knockout round.
Canada earned its second win of the tournament thanks to a first-period barrage of goals against Czechia.
Kristin O'Neill, Sarah Fillier, Laura Stacey and Julia Gosling all scored in the busy opening stanza.
Gosling added her second of the game in the second period to complete Canada's scoring.
Not everything went Canada's way, though, as its star player Marie-Philip Poulin left the game with an injury. Her status for Tuesday is unknown.
Finland and Switzerland face off in Tuesday's other Group A game. That game will determine seeding coming out of Group A.
Women's Group B
2 of 2
1 Sweden (3-0; 9 points)
2. Italy (2-1; 6 points)
3. Germany (2-1; 5 points)
4. Japan (1-2; 3 points)
5. France (0-3; 1 point)
Monday's Results
Italy 3, Japan 2
Germany 2, France 1 (Final/OT)
Italy booked its place in the knockout round with a win over Japan.
Matilde Fantin netted a pair of goals for the host nation. Kristin Della Rovere added a third goal that turned out to be the game-winning goal.
Italy guaranteed itself one of the three knockout-round places out of Group B because it owns head-to-head wins over Japan and France.
Germany inched closer to quarterfinal qualification with its overtime win over France.
The overtime victory only came with two points, so Germany is just two points ahead of Japan going into the final day of group play.
Germany will most likely advance from Group B, though, since Japan plays Sweden on Tuesday.
Japan needs to beat Sweden in regulation and have Germany lose to Italy to leapfrog the Germans.
Germany needs either a win of any kind, or a Japan loss to clinch the final place in the knockout round.
